Dr. Helena Mentis is an assistant professor in the Department of Information Systems and the Director of the Bodies in Motion Lab at UMBC. Her research aims to address technology design and adoption from a person-centered perspective. She is most interested in designing and evaluating technologies for movement sensing in healthcare contexts, specifically using commercial sensors such as the Microsoft Kinect or Leap Motion device. Prior to her position at UMBC, she held a joint postdoctoral fellowship at Microsoft Research Cambridge and University of Cambridge, and then went on to serve as a research fellow at Harvard Medical School.
