SLSA is planning a banquet event, Cultivate to Educate, which will take place on April 7th, 2017, in the UC Ballroom. It is an interactive event where we want to engage diverse orgs to show that we can connect cross-culturally to face similar, adverse situations. The event itself is based off of Oxfam’s Hunger Banquet so people will be split into three different socioeconomic groups.
Through a storyline (which we are developing), audience members will be shifting between groups to represent changes due to events such as natural disasters, scholarships, war, etc. After this, we will have an open mic style event with food and fun! Between the banquet and the open mic is an intermission where we want tables set up for interested organizations to promote whatever cause/charity/social issue that the group advocates for.
SLSA would like to ask if you or your org would like to be involved in this event. You can help develop the storyline to highlight a cause or event of significance to your org, have a performance, and / or table during the intermission. There are many other volunteer opportunities available!
If you are interested in being involved in this event, please contact nfernan1@umbc.edu. We will be having an interest meeting in the coming weeks and we hope you will stop by the SLSA table at Involvement Fest. Thank you and we hope to hear from you soon!
