The University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) is proud to announce the launch of its bachelor’s degree program in the Management of Aging Services (MAgs) at the Universities at Shady Grove (USG).
Today’s massive population of baby boomers poised turn to 60 has created a watershed moment in the U.S. aging experience. As more seniors seek intensive activity and personal growth in later life, they boost demand for professionals trained to address these interests. The MAgS program meets this need head-on.
The “graying of America” will touch every aspect of U.S. society, creating unprecedented challenges and opportunities in fields from product design to healthcare management to financial services. The innovative MAgS program integrates the disciplines of aging studies, management and policy, giving students a strong foundation to pursue a broad range of careers serving older adults.
Stewart Edelstein, University System of Maryland (USM) Associate Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and USG Executive Director, notes that this program is “specifically selected and designed to meet the needs of our region’s workforce.” In addition to accessing new employment opportunities, graduates of the UMBC Management of Aging Services program at USG will be able to apply to the Erickson School’s MAgS master’s program.
USG is a vibrant learning community created by the USM in 2000 to serve undergraduate and graduate students seeking flexible instruction, including evening and weekend courses. A partnership of nine USM institutions, its course offerings improve access to some of the USM’s most popular degree programs for professionally-focused students in and around Montgomery County.
