On Tuesday, October 12, Baltimore county executive candidates Kenneth Holt and Kevin Kamenetz will debate in UMBC’s University Center Ballroom. The debate, which is sponsored by UMBC’s public policy department, will take place from 7-8:30 p.m. and be moderated by Professor Donald F. Norris, chair of the public policy department and director of the Maryland Institute for Policy Analysis and Research.
Each candidate will give a three-minute introductory statement, followed by questions from a panel that will include Marjie Slater-Kaplan of the Baltimore County League of Women Voters, Patricia Cook-Ferguson of the Baltimore County NAACP, Bryan Sears of Patuxent publishing and Andy Rosen of the Baltimore Sun. After the questions from the panel, audience members’ questions will be chosen at random and presented to the candidates by Norris.
“This event will give the community an opportunity to get to know the candidates in this exciting race,” said Norris. “We look forward to an animated, informative exchange.”
The debate is free and open to the public. Signs will not be allowed in the ballroom. Parking for the debate is available in metered spaces in the Commons Drive, Administration Drive and Walker Avenue garages, or at no charge in Stadium Lot.
The county executive position is being vacated by two-term executive Jim Smith. The general election will be held on Tuesday, November 2.
