NAMI's 3rd Annual Winter Wonderland Event!
Stressed about final? Love Gingerbread Houses? Join us :)
Did you know that a 2013 study published by the University of Michigan reported prevalence of mental health challenges among college students from over 26 US universities to be:
17.3% for
depression,
4.1% for panic
disorder,
7.0% for
generalized anxiety,
6.3% for
suicidal ideation,
& 15.3% for non-suicidal.
Did you
know that another, more recent study published by UCLA has revealed that the mental
health of college freshman has declined to its lowest point in the past 30
years?
That is
why during this end-of-semester rush, UMBC NAMI invites you to join us for our
3nd Annual Winter Wonderland Event! We hope to raise awareness about mental illness, inform our
student body about safe and healthy mental health practices (especially in the
midst of finals week), distribute resources, and provide a relaxing,
de-stressing opportunity for the whole UMBC Community! Some
of our fun activities include:
· Gingerbread house decorating (&
eating, yum!)
· Holiday scrabble-coaster making
· Snowflake decal painting
· Mental Health Trivias and facts
· An ugly sweater contest @ 5:00pm!
· Guest speakers
· And much much more!
So come
de-stress and help spread awareness about the importance of mental health! If
you are interesting in volunteering at the event, please feel free to sign-up
on our google doc.
