Pearlstone Teva Education Fellowship

Looking for an opportunity to work with Jewish environmentalism? Pearlstone is looking for a Teva Fellow for March 2022-November 2022!

"Pearlstone is thrilled to announce our new Teva Education Fellowship. This Fellowship is designed to create a vibrant and dynamic Jewish community while facilitating our environmental education programming. This is a great opportunity to gain hands-on experience in facilitation, curriculum writing and program development. Fellows will work outdoors and facilitate transformative Jewish environmental education for students and campers as part of the vital Jewish life engaging work of Pearlstone Retreat Center and Outdoor Education Campus. 


Teva (nature) is the name of the environmental education programming we do at Pearlstone. Fellows will focus on a school program for Jewish day-schools called Shomrei Adamah (Guardians of the Earth) and our nature-based summer camp called Tiyul Adventure Camp and our Family Farm Camp. During Passover, Shavuot and Sukkot Retreats, the Fellows will have skill-building opportunities to lead sessions to adults, children and families. Pearlstone will provide the Fellows with opportunities to enhance abilities, connect and learn together both within the Fellowship and engage and facilitate Hazon and Pearlstone programming. The Fellows will develop skills through supporting Jewish environmental education programming. Hazon and Pearlstone are committed to the professional development and trajectory of the Teva Education Fellows.

This semester, there is a Rimon cohort running from February 6 to April 10. The sessions will be every Sunday from 12 to 2 pm Eastern Time. The Rimon cohort is an opportunity to further your knowledge about Zionism and the conflict by engaging in the complexities of Israel, discussing Zionism’s fundamental tenets, and how these ideals impact the current makeup of the Middle East. The program takes place entirely online and is tailored to the needs of each participant. You will get to learn from some of the best educators in Israel, discuss with fellow Zionists from around the world, be mentored by college students, and discuss with world-renowned speakers!

Pursuing Justice: Wednesdays, 11 AM-12 PM. For whom are we responsible? What do we need to know about ethics, power, and action before we make those decisions? What do I do when the world feels like it’s on fire? What is my ultimate responsibility when systems I rely on to protect the global good appear to be failing? How do we understand our privilege? What impact does prayer have? Two weeks of this cohort will be spent doing service projects. This cohort will be lead by Aliza, with input from our campus Repair the World Service Corp fellows.

Life's Bigger Questions: Thursdays, 11 AM-12 PM. *Past JLF participation (any cohort) required. What is the role of gratitude in our lives? When living in a world that is increasingly more secular, what is the role of religion and spirituality? Is it important to have a personal concept of God? Is forgiveness important? How do we decide what our calling should be? Who are we, as Jews, responsible to care for? This cohort will be lead by Rabbi Jeremy.

Are you a campus or community prayer leader age 18-26 seeking to grow your davening skills in a community of like-minded leaders? In this 8-week program, a select group of emerging shelihei tzibbur (prayer leaders) will gather virtually with the Rising Song Institute’s Deborah Sacks Mintz and Hadar’s faculty to build out their toolkits of leadership skills. This unique fellowship experience will combine text study, melody sharing, and training in technical skills. All shelichei tzibbur engaged in leadership in campus or communal settings, ages 18-26, are encouraged to apply! Interested in leading Shabbat prayer services? This spring, we're looking to hold some form of Shabbat services and zemirot (Shabbat songs) every week, followed by an oneg or dinner, COVID-19 pending! We're looking for students to come up with a list of prayers and songs, lead, give words of Torah, set-up, and oversee the operations of Shabbat each week! A creative team leader with a can-do attitude, the 4Front Assistant Director will serve to further 4Front’s vision for more engaged Jewish teens and adults who care about them throughout the Baltimore community. The Assistant Director will serve as an influential member of 4Front’s leadership team, as well as responsible for designing, developing, and implementing engaging and impactful programs for adults who care about teens, parents and youth professionals.

The Assistant Director will support and grow a team of rockstar Jewish teen professionals, offering teen program oversight, guidance, and support. 4Front utilizes relational engagement as a key strategy of connection and building community. 4Front Relational Engagement Associate

A team player with a can-do attitude, the 4Front Relational Engagement Associate helps to implement a vision for more engaged Jewish teens throughout Jewish Baltimore, serving as a passionate and enthusiastic advocate for Jewish teen engagement. This professional will plan and implement engaging and impactful teen programs from start to finish, with content focusing on relational engagement, social entrepreneurship, Jewish identity, and leadership development.

In addition to programmatic areas, the Relational Engagement Associate will seek to expand 4Front’s engagement platform, using their personable nature to initiate one-on-one relationship building with Jewish teens in Baltimore. This professional will establish meaningful relationships with teens, build and maintain a system for tracking relationships, and manage and compile all program data. This portfolio will look different daily, and in an effort to best support and connect with teens, this professional may find themselves in the other places where they “show up” (community programs, Maccabi competitions, school and other extra curriculars). Learn More and Apply

The Jewish Learning Fellowship (JLF) is a 10-week experiential, conversational seminar for students looking to deepen their understanding of Judaism on their own terms. We’re interested in asking big questions. You know, the big stuff — like Who am I? What communities am I a part of? What is worth committing myself to, and why? JLF is open to anyone interested in learning about themselves from a Jewish perspective—no previous Jewish learning required. All participants will earn a $180 stipend. Students must attend 8 out of 10 cohort meetings to receive the stipend.

This spring, we are excited to offer JLF: Pursuing Justice and JLF: 2.0 Life's Bigger Questions, starting the week of 2/7. Those that sign up for JLF by the end of the day will get to vote on the meeting day and time for the semester! Learn more and apply here!
