Club Meeting Tonight! Week 1
Welcome/Intros + VM Setup and CTFs
Hey CyberDawgs!
Today is the Day! Our first meeting of the semester is tonight, 7:10 PM to 9:00 PM in Engineering 231. You can also join us virtually on Webex: https://umbc.webex.com/meet/CyberDawgs.
Tonight will be our club welcome/intro. Also, we will have a walkthrough for setting up a Kali Linux virtual machine and a how-to on CTFs. After tonight, you will be able to dive right into our CyberPaws CTF Challenges. We love to have you join us and check out what we're all about!
Again, do not hesitate to reach out to me on Discord (@truegritter) if you have any questions. Also, stay safe out there today and drink water, it is another hot and humid one.
If you do not have a Virtual Machine on your computer already, we will be using VirtualBox: https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Downloads. Also, here is where you can get a copy of Kali Linux https://www.kali.org/get-kali/#kali-virtual-machines (Download the "VirtualBox" One). If you know what you're doing, feel free to set things up the way you like. IMPORTANT Directions for M1/M2 Mac Users: https://www.macobserver.com/tips/how-to/install-kali-linux-m1-m2-mac/

To make the most of our Discord, we invite you to chat with us in #club-general. Feel free to ask questions, share your ideas, send #memes, and photos of your #pets! If you haven't already, we encourage you to introduce yourself in the #member-introductions channel.
Attend Club Meetings
Our meetings will take place every Monday Night from 7:10 PM to 9:00 PM in Engineering 231 or virtually via Webex: https://umbc.webex.com/meet/CyberDawgs. Everyone is welcome, regardless if you're well-versed in cybersecurity or completely new to the field.

Club Google Calendar
Participate in CyberPaws CTF (Capture-the-Flag)
Each week, a new CTF challenge will be released. They will be fun, beginner-friendly, and designed to help build your skills. There will also be cool tech prizes for the top solvers.
Compete in CDE
Our Cyber Defense Exercise (CDE) will be on Saturday, October 21. CDE is a Red/Blue competition open to all UMBC undergraduates. It is a great way to get the taste of the competition environment and learn about cybersecurity. Information about registration will be out later this semester.

End of Semester Celebration, Spring 2023

The end of Spring 2023 is quickly approaching and we are thrilled to invite you all to our much-anticipated End-of-Semester Celebration! As we approach the culmination of an incredible and challenging semester, it's time to relax, reflect, and rejoice in our collective achievements.
The celebration will take place during our usual meeting time on Wednesday, so mark your calendars!

- An opportunity to share stories, experiences, and maybe a few laughs over the past semester

UMBC Cyber Defense Team 2017 National CCDC Champions
Cyber Dawgs Win BIG!
A big congratulations to the Cyber Dawgs who competed the over the course of the last three days to win the 2017 National CCDC (www.nationalccdc.org).
The National CCDC (Or Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition) is a competition in which teams are given inherently insecure computers/servers and told to defend those servers against professional hackers (Red team). While protecting against the red team they must also keep up critical services (Email servers for example), respond to a mock CEO, and complete business injects.
To make it to the National CCDC teams must first win their region. The winning teams from each region (10 Regions) go to compete in San Antonio, TX for the Alamo Cup. In all over 200 colleges compete in this competition annually with this year UMBC winning!
