POSITION TITLE: Student Bus Driver
PERSONNEL STATUS: Non-exempt, hourly - Position will be approximately 12-20 hours per week
DEPARTMENT: UMBC Transit
RESPONSIBILITIES: The incumbent will be trained to provide safe, reliable, on-time transportation services to UMBC students, faculty and staff. The position involves paid training, flexible work hours, and advancement opportunities. Qualified candidates are trained to ensure the operational readiness of equipment and to perform basic maintenance functions.
UMBC Transit bus drivers must: have excellent time management skills, maintain punctuality and adhere to UMBC Transit guidelines, successfully complete approximately 72 hours of paid training to obtain a Class B Commercial Driver’s License with a Passenger Endorsement and air brakes and appreciate learning, involvement and multiculturalism.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Must be currently enrolled as a UMBC student in good standing
Must be at least 18 years of age
Must possess a valid non-provisional U.S. Driver’s License
Must have a clean driving record
Must possess a valid U.S. Social Security Card
Must commit to working a minimum of 12 hours/week for three semesters
Must qualify for a Maryland Commercial Driver’s License permit w/ passenger endorsement and air brakes. Subject to drug and alcohol education and testing as required under US DOT and the State of Maryland regulations. Subject to pre-employment and random drug testing. A background check may be required. Position requires working evenings and/or weekends.
SALARY: $8.50/ hour during training and $10/hour after completion of training and CDL licensing
