Engagement, and Belonging
The purpose of the survey is to gather data about UMBC
community member’s experiences and perceptions of
their engagement, belonging, and overall campus climate
at UMBC.
Participants/Timeline:
All students, faculty, and staff are invited to take the survey from
April 1 – May 1, 2025

1. Engagement (Engagement is defined as experiences that are demonstrated
by how UMBC community members think, feel, and act, as
well as how they feel about UMBC’s environment and policies,
which influence how they feel towards UMBC.)

4. Sense of Belonging
5. Health & Well-Being (Well-being is defined as having both individual and
community components that include but are not limited to
physical health, mental health, wellness, learning/work/living
environments, and overall campus climate.)

Who is behind the survey?
A team of UMBC students, faculty, and staff is working with Rankin
Climate, an organization with 25 years of climate assessment
experience at over 300 campuses on this project.
Will anyone be able to identify my responses?
Confidentiality is vital to the success of the survey. Rankin Climate
has taken multiple precautionary measure to ensure anonymity.

Retirement Readiness First Steps Webinar

The Retirement Readiness First Steps webinar provides a
general overview of the survivor, disability, and retirement benefits
administered by Maryland State Retirement and Pension System (SRPS) – including
descriptions of service retirement eligibility rules, vesting criteria, and
ways to obtain additional qualifying service credit. This presentation is
designed for early career and mid-career members of the Employees’ and
Teachers’ Retirement and Pension Systems.
ALL MSRP WEBINARS ARE APPROXIMATELY 45 MINUTES IN LENGTH.
Any employee can attend an MSRP webinar, regardless of their retirement plan.
Panopto has reported an issue affecting the accurate passing of grades from Panopto assignments to Blackboard's gradebook.
Some grades for both quizzes and video progress are not being reported correctly to the Blackboard gradebook. Please see this article for more information.
There is currently no available mitigation for this issue. As part of the investigation, the Panopto support team will confirm if it is possible to resubmit the scores to the gradebook once this issue is resolved. Please open a ticket via RT should you need any assistance.

Blackboard Reminder: Update Browsers to Latest Version
Older browser versions may not be supported in Blackboard
Following the April 2025 Blackboard release, some Blackboard users reported issues (e.g., blank screen, spinning wheel) with Blackboard access. Unsupported browser versions were identified as the cause of the access issue. As a reminder, please ensure that your browser is up to date.
Update April 14: The code updates addressing rendering issues for Safari version 16.3 and earlier have been successfully deployed to production and validated. All functionality is now working as expected. While this fix addresses the recent compatibility issues, Blackboard strongly recommends keeping browsers up to date to ensure access to the latest security patches and performance enhancements.
Supported Browsers for Blackboard
As of April 4, 2025, Blackboard supports the following browsers:
- Safari MacOS and iOS: The two most recent major versions (versions 17 and 18)
- Chrome: The most recent stable version and two preceding versions (versions 133, 134, and 135)
- Firefox: The most stable version and the two preceding versions
- Edge: The most recent stable version and the two preceding versions
Why Update Your Browser
If you're using older versions of these browsers, you may encounter difficulties accessing Blackboard or features within the application. Updating your browser ensures compatibility with the latest features on Blackboard, enhances security, and provides a smoother user experience. If your browser does not update automatically, please take time to check your browser for available updates.

Browser Checker to check your browser and browser settings.
Important Browser Settings
In addition to using the most current browser version, your browser settings should be updated to allow pop-ups and third-party cookies from Blackboard.
Allow Pop-Ups
Pop-Up blockers should not be enabled in your browser when running Blackboard. For an optimal experience on Blackboard, make sure to disable any pop-up blocker software on your browser or allow your browser to open pop-ups from Blackboard.
