As faculty we all want our students to think critically, but what does that really mean, and how do we teach students to do it? You are invited to explore these questions through discussion
of best-selling author Stephen Brookfield’s newest book. Brookfield builds on his last three decades of experience running workshops and teaching courses on critical thinking to
explore how student learn to think this way, and what teachers can do to help students
develop this capacity. He outlines a basic protocol of critical thinking as a learning process that focuses on uncovering and checking assumptions, exploring alternative perspectives, and taking informed actions as a result. Participants will receive a copy of the book ahead of time. The first session will cover the first half of the book, and the second session will deal with ideas in the second half . Lunch will be provided.
