October
is National LGBT History Month! Also observed during this month is
National Coming Out Day (October 11th), an international day of
awareness celebrating the coming out of LGBT individuals.
In recognition of this day - and month - the Office of Student
Life's Mosaic Center has planned various events/programs during the
week (October 8th - October 12th) of National Coming Out Day. I would
like to highlight three of those events:LGBT Awareness Resource Fair: This fair will be taking place next Wednesday (October 10th) during free hour (12pm - 1pm) on Commons Mainstreet. This fair is a part of the Diversity Awareness Month Cultural and Resource Fairs sponsored by various campus partners. Campus departments and student organizations will be providing information related to the outreach and support they offer to LGBT students.
Giveaways! (with the Graduate Coordinator for LGBTQ Programs): Get to know me (Oteri Esiekpe), the Graduate Coordinator for LGBTQ Programs, and pick up some goodies (buttons, cookies, slap bracelets, and many more!). Please remember that my new office is located on the 3rd floor of The Commons, Suite 336.
Come Out Speak Out: To honor LGBTQ History Month and National Coming Out Day the Women's Center is collecting your stories and experiences! Stop by their table at the Resource Fair or the Center anytime after 1pm on October 10th or anytime on October 11th to share your story!
Please take a look at the attached flyer for more information on all the events taking place next week. Also, feel free to share this with those who might be interested.
