Tuesday, November 20th, 2012 marks the 14th annual International Transgender Day of Remembrance. On this day, we memorialize those whose lives were lost as a result of transgender targeted violence. This day is important in raising recognition and awareness of those who are affected by transgender-targeted violence.

Founded in 1988 by Gwendolyn Ann Smith, a transgender graphic designer and activist to memorialize the death of Rita Hester, this day of remembrance has
grown to be observed in over 185 cities throughout more than 20 countries. In honor of this year's Transgender Day of Rememberance, the Office of Student Life's Mosaic Center and the Women's Center will be commemorating those who have been affected by transgender violence with a myUMBC discussion post, sharing stories of friends and family members that have been lost because of transgender-targeted violence and victimization.
