Today is Diwali - the Festival of Lights.
The word diwali originated from the Sanskrit word dipavali which can be translated to row of lights.
The celebration of Diwali involves the lighting of small clay lamps to signify the triumph of good over evil.
Diwali is an official holiday in India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Malaysia, Singapore, Suriname, Trinidad & Tobago, Mauritius, Guyana, and Fiji.
Happy Diwali to those who celebrate the 5-day festival!
Special shout outs to UMBC's EKTA for their hard work putting together their event Diwali Dhamaka. And also to SASA for their cultural show, Ajooba. Make sure to look out for these cultural shows next year!
