Varapapa Thodpanich, Chemical Engineering '17: is working in Dr. Ghosh's lab evaluating quality of the sediment and fish. She finds how much PCB, PAHs and/or PE by extracting it from the fish and sediment, and running the samples in gas chromatography chamber. For her upcoming project, she will have to do material balances on seven tributaries that is in the Anacostia river to determine how much PCB, PAHs, and PE are in the river and to improve quality of the water. Her favorite part of the research lab is the people around her and being able to apply my wet chemistry techniques that she has learned in labs. She also gets to travel to different lakes and rivers around Maryland to collect the fish and water samples.
