Mona Patel (UMBC ‘17, Chemical Engineering-Bio Track) is interning at MedImmune this summer. She is “developing a new derouging mapping program and writing my own SOP (standard operating procedure). I will also be the first author of the SOP and my program will be used in the field starting in September. Hopefully, I'll get to present my work at the national conference in October if my abstract gets approved by nationals.” In addition to that, as SWE president, she is working hard and trying to coordinate a time so that SWE at UMBC can invite Miss America 2014, Nina Dulvuri @realninad. She wants to fight the stereotype that is attached to women in engineering. Mona wants to pursue both her dreams and passion to be an engineer and a model #UseYourAnd. She is still learning the ropes and getting comfortable in the engineering field, but in the future, she hopes that she can fulfill her dreams by using her engineering skills and knowledge in the world of prosthetics. Her favorite quote is “we must become the change we wish to see in the world”, so let us keep that in mind and we should take action NOW to reach our hopes and dreams!
