The USPTO is currently hiring patent examiners, and we're holding an information session to meet you! 5) On the Road to GE Middle River Aircraft: Friday, March 4, 8:30 am - 3 pm

The Career Center is organizing this unique opportunity for UMBC engineers to tour the GE Aviation facility at Middle River.  Transportation and lunch are provided, but advance registration on UMBCworks is required as space is limited

GE is particularly interested in meeting freshman and sophomore students, so be sure to sign up today!

I hope you are all staying warm and enjoying winter break. As we are nearing winter break, we hope that you are all thinking about Summer break. Summer break is a fantastic time for you to gain experience and skills in your major, so start applying to those summer internships and research today!

One upcoming opportunity is to attend the SWE Region-E conference!

Early registration is due by tomorrow (Friday, Jan. 15) and then the prices will go up. You will have until Feb. 6 to register.

The SWE conference is a great way to meet and network with companies that you could potentially intern or work for. The conference includes numerous of workshops, career fair, and food.

The Conference is located in Newsport News, VA which is only 3 hours away! So register today!!!!

Come help SWE present a workshop to high school girls to encourage interest in STEM! Meet girls from the Baltimore area, organize activities geared toward sciences, and show them how interesting and applicable engineering is. Let’s share our passions for our majors with the community!

REACH is having a workshop this Saturday and UMBC SWE has been invited to participate on a panel on engineering (they only need 3-4 members so  please email umbcswe@gmail.com if you're interested.)

Have a SWEet week!

We just need one student who would like to help guide the girls in building and programming Lego robots, and encouraging them in their design and presentation of a solution (a working prototype is not required, but is encouraged) to a recycling problem. The young girls do all the work, but they need encouragement and hints on how to proceed and work together efficiently. On any given team meeting we have 5-6 girls on average attending with a couple of parents helping out. Mentors should be familiar with Lego EV3 Mindstorms, computer programming and the engineering process. No meeting preparation is required, but suggestions for time management and supplemental materials are welcome.

The required time commitment is 7 3-hour team meetings from 9-12 on the following days at 4806 Seton Drive, Baltimore: 11/21, 12/5/, 12/12, 12/19, 1/9, 1/16, 1/23. The qualifier is 1/24, but since the girls need to operate as an autonomous team in front of the judges, the mentor's presence at that day long event is not as important.
