Get Involved and volunteer! SWE hosts the Blood Drive
**Get some membership points on 4/25 and 4/28**
Dear SWEethearts,
Are you seeking for ways to volunteer and give back to the community? Do you want to include SWE on your resume but do not have enough points? Here is YOUR chance!!
Give back to the community and help save lives!
Blood is constantly in need and your contribution will help save lives!
We will be partnering up with American Red Cross for two days during the week, please click on the link to volunteer:
Tabling (Monday, 4/25 @11am-2pm in the Breezeway):
Volunteers will be scheduling appointments for those who wants to donate blood! Encourage your family, friends, and professors to schedule an appointment to donate blood!
Blood Drive: (Thursday, 4/28 @8:30am-9:30pm in the Commons):
Volunteers will be checking blood donors and directing the donors to the designated spaces. Volunteers may also deliver food/drinks to the donors as requested by the nurse.
Please Volunteer as your service will be truly appreciated!

My Story - hosted by UMBC NAMI
Tonight at 6:30pm in the Skylight Lounge
UMBC NAMI will be holding its first My Story event on April 29th at 6:30pm in the Skylight Lounge. The purpose of this event is to increase campus-wide empathy & understanding of mental illness and to foster an open & supportive campus environment for students affected by it. At this event, student speakers will have the opportunity to share the impact mental illness has had on their lives, whether it be through loved ones or through themselves, and help others see beyond the superficial image of mental illness. The recommended attire is semi-formal and dinner & refreshments will be served. We truly hope you all will join us an incredible night with some extraordinary people. We ask that everyone bring an open mind and leave judgments at the door. Can’t wait to see you there!

DEFD Volunteering Carpooling! **Saturday 2/20**
Thank you all for your interest in volunteering for the Discover Engineering Family Day (DEFD) in the National Building Museum in DC! We will be offering a carpool service for this event. We will be carpooling to the nearest Metro Station and from there, we will be taking the Metro to the National Building Museum. Please dress comfortably and bring your SmartTrip card/money for your own fares, you are responsible for your own fares.

First Lego League MD State Championship 3/4-3/5
A fun and exciting STEM outreach opportunity!
We are looking for volunteers for the Maryland State FIRST LEGO League tournament on Saturday, March 5th in the RAC. Over seventy teams of kids travel to UMBC from all over the state to compete in a thrilling competition!
We need people to help set up on the night before, March 4th and the day of competition, March 5th.

Region E Conference Reimbursement Updates
Hi SWEethearts,
We have a few updates about conference:
1. Mileage reimbursements will only be provided to drivers if you participate in the carpool. We want to make sure that everyone has an opportunity to get there. So once again, here is the link:
2. You must make an appointment to visit Susan and sign the reimbursement form within 10 days after the conference. This signature will allow them to complete the transaction and for you to receive a check.

SWE Region E Conference Reimbursements and Car Pool
Please complete this ASAP
Hi all,
If you are registered for the Region E Conference (Feb.19th-21st) and would like a reimbursement, we are offering to cover the cost of early registration ($55). Please complete the following steps to receive said reimbursement:
1. Email Susan Martin (
susan@umbc.edu) with a time for a
meeting before the conference to fill out an e-travel form. Here is the link to her calendar:2. Email her a pdf of the conference registration confirmation/receipt.
3. Print and bring with you to the meeting a completed liability form (attached to this post).
4. If you are a driver then you can be reimbursed for travel costs. Print and bring a map that displays the miles from campus to the conference location.

Nina Davuluri, Miss America 2014 and Dr. Ross, the first female Dean of the Engineering School at UMBC will be talking about stereotypes and STEM education.
