Students from Severn Middle School are visiting UMBC for a day of fun, hands-on IT and engineering activities! This event, titled "Let's Get Techy", is sponsored by the Diversity Action Grant from ASME. ASME, SWE, ISCOM, and CWIT Student Council wrote the grant last semester. We are all very excited to be able to host an event like this!
The activity sponsored by SWE is Earthquake!. The middle school students have to build structures from marshmallows and toothpicks that will stand up to an earthquake. The earthquake is simulated by placing the structure on a pan of Jello and shaking it. There are many other ways to help with this event, feel free to put your name down for whatever sounds most interesting to you!
To register as a volunteer, please go to this Google document and put your name and number down for one of the many fun activities! The more hands, the better for this event!
