Featured Course: History of Film
Explore the fascinating world of cinema with ART 325!
Film greatly influences the way we see, feel, and understand the world around us.
This summer, explore the fascinating world of cinema with ART 325: History of Film and Video: 1965 to Present.
Topics covered include the political, economic, artistic, and technical factors influencing film and video production. Films from the counter-culture of the 60s, the American New Wave of 70s, teen movies of the 80s, American independent film and other significant eras, movements and developments in the cinema of the modern age will be examined.
Students must have completed one 200 level Arts and Humanities course prior to enrolling in this class.
ART 325 fulfills the Arts and Humanities GEP.

Featured Course: Critical Sexuality Studies
Discuss our nation's important conversations with GWST 210.
Last summer’s Supreme Court ruling on same-sex marriage had a tremendous impact on our nation. This ruling, however, merely scratched the surface in terms of sexuality and gender identity in our country. We must continue this important conversation and dig deeper, paying special attention to intersections of sexuality with gender, race, ethnicity, religion, class, and disability.
GWST 210: Introduction to Critical Sexuality Studies introduces students to the field of critical sexuality studies. Using an interdisciplinary approach, GWST 210 conducts a critical inquiry into the historical precedents and theoretical frameworks necessary to understand the role of sexuality in shaping personal, social, economic, and political life. GWST also focuses on patterns of subordination and exclusion based on individuals’ sexual practices and identities, explains the origins and persistence of those patterns, and considers ways of challenging them.
GWST 210 is a 6-week, hybrid course that fulfills the Culture and Social Sciences GEPs, and is part of the Culture & Social Justice course offerings. GWST 210 is cross-listed with AMST 210.

Explore ancient Greek mythology with ANCS 201!
The rise and fall of ancient Greece has provided the bases of many things we take for granted in the modern word. For example, the first historians and mathematicians developed their crafts in reaction to the the shift to empirical thinking and reasoning. Additionally, the democratic political and judicial system was used to organize society, while poetry, theater, and other artistic elements were created to express it. By diving into the Aegean Bronze Age in ANCS 201: The Ancient Greeks, students will learn about the nature of politics, the Persian and Peloponnesian wars, and Alexander the Great, in addition to Greek mythology and literature. This hybrid course fulfills the Arts and Humanities and Culture GEP.

Master social conscious business skills in ENTR 340.
We, as millennials, are a HUGE wave of future entrepreneurs who’ve made ‘doing good’ a priority. As a result, social entrepreneurship is on the rise. Thanks to the Alex Brown Center at UMBC, you can master your social conscious business skills this summer in ENTR 340: Innovation, Creative Problem-Solving and & the Socialpreneur.
With the guiding help of professor Gib Mason, the class will be an immersive hands-on experience, assisting a local organization in developing solutions to very real problems. The course will also consist of guest lectures and readings about innovative problem solving.
This course is considered an upper elective for the entrepreneurship minor, and students must have completed ENTR 200 and either ENTR 201, AMST 205, SOCY 205, or POLI 205.
This inspiring course is only offered every other summer.

Have fun this summer, and knock out an Arts and Humanities (GEP) credit by enrolling in ENGL 272-Introduction to Creative Writing- Scriptwriting.
