The Start the Adventure Scholarship was born out of a desire by STA Travel to recognize both student and institution. Thus, $2500 is awarded to a deserving student and a matching donation of $2500 is made to the student's home university or college to award to an additional student of their choice for study abroad, thereby making each scholarship twice as powerful.
The STA Travel Start the Adventure timeline for students who will begin their study abroad programs between January and June 2016 is as follows:
Application Opens: Monday, October 12, 2015 (before 5 PM MDT)
Application Deadline: Friday, November 6, 2015, 5 PM MDT
Award Announced: Wednesday, December 30, 2015 (before 5 PM MDT, subject to change)
Applications for the award will take place through the regular FGS application channel at the link below:

The top three applicants will be interviewed by STA Travel staff. Applicants should be:
1. Willing to be an advocate for meaningful travel, international education, and equal access to these opportunities for fellow students
2. Creative in demonstrating how you advocate for meaningful travel and international education
3. Able to answer the question: “Why is it important for students to participate in international education programs?"
Final selection of the scholarship recipient will be made by STA Travel.
