PROMOTION: Retriever Essentials Survey

<Tagline>Helping tackle food insecurity on campus</Tagline>

See the message and survey below from the Retriever Essential group on campus.

---

Retriever Essentials is a faculty, staff, and student partnership to tackle food insecurity in our university community. Nationwide, a large percentage of college students are skipping meals to make ends meet, often despite working full and part time jobs and careful budgeting. Retriever Essentials exists to ensure that UMBC students should not have to make decisions like this. We strive to end basic needs barriers to academic success, and we do so by providing free nonperishable groceries at 6 locations on campus, and also free meals to True Grits through our Save a Swipe Program.

In an effort to understand the prevalence of food insecurity in our university community, we are striving to issue an institution-wide survey this semester to quantify the need for our programming. We would greatly appreciate if students took the time to fill out our quick student survey. Responses will be kept confidential and only used to support Retriever Essentials' research and analyses. The survey is online, and can be found here.

A former Graduate Program Director, Dr. Robinson was recognized for excellence in mentoring by the University System of Maryland Board of Regents in 2002 and by the Leadership Alliance in 2006. Prior to joining the faculty of the Department of Biological Sciences in 1992, the Boston-native did postdoctoral work at Brandeis University, and received a Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a B.A. in Biology from Wellesley College.

Over the past 26 years, the UMBC community has benefitted from Dr. Robinson’s many gifts that include her passion for research, her talent for mentoring, and her compassion for others.
