<Title>Start Scheduling Your Final Exams</Title>

    we approach the end of the semester, we at the Office of Student Disability
    Services would like to remind students who are approved for testing
    accommodations to start scheduling your finals exams with our office. Finals
    start Thursday, December 13, 2018 and end Wednesday, December 19, 2018. Please schedule

<Title>Fall 2018 Semester Accommodation Requests</Title>

    Office of Student Disability Services (SDS) would like to remind students
    to <strong>please submit their </strong></span><a href="http://sds.umbc.edu/accommodate-semester-request/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo"><strong><span>Semester Request</span></strong></a><span> as soon as
    possible. This is done every semester you are enrolled in order to
    authorize accommodation letters to be sent to your faculty members. It is done
    online using our secure <em>Accommodate </em>system.</span></p>

    <p><span><strong>Important:</strong>
    If you made changes to your course schedule after your Semester Accommodation
    Request was submitted, you need to submit a new semester request for the new
    course(s) in your schedule.</span></p>

    and Digital Materials:</span></strong><span> For students
    approved for alternate format text accommodations, please make sure you fill

    Assistance:</span></strong><span> Students that are approved for
    note-taking assistance and plan to use this accommodation in their fall courses
    are encouraged to try <strong><em>Sonocent audio note-taker</em></strong> instead of
    using a peer note-takers.</span></p>
    
    <p><span>Research indicates higher course GPAs and an increase in
    active learning and content retention when using <em>Sonocent</em>! Contact Andrew Drummond, the SDS Assistive Technology

    <div class="html-content"><span>The </span><a href="https://doit.umbc.edu/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">Division of Information Technology (DoIT)</a><span> in collaboration with the </span><a href="https://sds.umbc.edu/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">Office of Student Disability Services (SDS)</a><span> and the </span><a href="https://nfb.org/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">National Federation of the Blind (NFB)</a><span> will hold a one hour information and training session called Accessibility 101 on Thursday, August 2nd in Engineering 102 from 12 - 1 p.m.  The goal of this presentation is to provide an overview of what it means to create accessible materials, why it is important, and basic strategies for ensuring that your content is designed for universal access.     The objective of this hands-on training will focus on providing faculty 
    with the basic skills to assess if their course materials are accessible
     and to learn how to easily make them accessible in order to support 
    access and inclusion of students with disabilities and universal design 
    for all learners.</span></p><p><span> </span></p><p><span>Trainees
     should bring their laptop with Adobe Acrobat Pro or DC installed and at
     least one PDF document from their course materials to review. Direct 
    instruction will be provided for both creation of an accessible document
     and remediation of inaccessible content using common authoring tools 
    including Microsoft and Adobe products.  For questions or to RSVP,
