    <div class="html-content"><img src="https://my3.my.umbc.edu/groups/socy/posts/136491/attachments/49309" style="max-width: 100%; height: auto;"><div><div>PBHL 398-02</div><div><span>Social Justice in US Maternal and Child Health</span></div><div>Tuesday 4:30pm-7:00pm</div><div>Instructor: <span>Funmi</span> Chinekezi</div><div>Course <span>Description</span>: With an emphasis on social justice, this course addresses maternal and child health inequities in the United States, as well as the systemic factors contributing to them. Students will examine the influence of the physical, social and cultural environment on the health of women, children, and families in the United States, particularly those from historically marginalized communities. Using an ecological and life-course perspective, this course will provide an <span>overview</span> of historical and current policies and practices that have disproportionately impacted MCH populations in the United States. This course will also underscore the importance of a public health, multisector approach for improving outcomes.<br></div><div><br></div></div></div>

In exploring how gender and sexuality are culturally constructed the course does not focus on the biology of gender and sexuality per se. Rather, the course explores distinctive peoples understandings of gender and sexuality. Lectures focus on basic principles by which to examine gender in cross-cultural perspective. Readings focus on detailed and complex examples of distinctive gender and sexuality system. </div></div></div>
