    <div class="html-content"><h3><strong>Anthropology of Food<br></strong><strong>with Dori Beeler</strong></h3><div><br></div><div><strong>M/W 1:00 - 2:15 p.m.</strong></div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div><span>This course investigates what we eat and, as a consequence, who we are. By taking a cross-cultural perspective, students will examine the politics of food production, the values associated with food preparation, and the material and social dynamics of food consumption. Through readings, films, field trips, demonstrations, and tastings, the course offers an interdisciplinary and dynamic pedagogical approach to analyzing cooking and eating¿activities central to daily life and to social forms more broadly. Local- and global-level issues will be addressed as students explore histories, economics, social issues, and identity formation related to food.</span></div></div>

    <div class="html-content"><div><p><strong>Please apply through UMBCworks (Job Posting # 9306890) </strong></p><div><br></div><p><strong>This is a 10-hour per week position beginning in the Fall 2019 semester.  Weekly schedule is flexible and will work around students' academic schedule<em>.  </em></strong></p><p><strong>We are looking for an undergraduate student who is comfortable working with other students, staff, and faculty.  Communication skills (both verbal and written) as well as interpersonal skills are very important, as this person is the 'face' of our department.  We are looking for a student who will take the initiative to jump in and help our team as needed.  </strong><strong>Consistent close attention to detail is required.  </strong></p><p>Our student office staff assists with daily office task such as: answering the phone, filing, copying, and scanning, sorting mail and deliver packages, making sure the copiers are loaded and free from jams. </p><p>On a weekly basis, our office staff maintain our department laptops, run errands on campus as needed (picking off exams at SDS, deliver time-sensitive interoffice mail, take scantrons to the library to be graded), and respond to department inquiries via our website. </p><p>Ongoing administrative projects include keeping our bulletin boards up to date, creating departmental fliers, forwarding emails to faculty/staff, advertising events (groups, emails, posting flyers), updating course listings for each semester, keeping department directory up-to-date each semester, supporting the creation of our annual department newsletter, assisting with sensitive inventory, assisting with larger department events (such as Social Sciences Forums, End-of-Semester celebration, etc.),  assisting with University events (such as Retriever Days, Transfer Student Open Houses). </p><p>Office staff report directly to our administrative assistant and support the entire SAHAP staff, which includes our program management specialist, accountant, department coordinator, advising coordinator, graduate program coordinator, department chair, and faculty.  Additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed. </p></div><div><br></div><h6><strong>Please apply through UMBCworks (Job Posting # 9306890) </strong></h6><div><br><div><a href="http://www.careers.umbc.edu/umbcworks/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">http://www.careers.umbc.edu/umbcworks/</a></div><div><br></div><div><div><br></div></div><div><br></div></div></div>
