Hello, I just wanted to reach out to see who will need carpooling for the Santa’s Helpers event this Saturday. If you require carpooling please reach out to me via e-mail at rybulez1@umbc.edu so that your ride can be arranged. We will meet for carpooling at the Administrative Parking Circle near Sherman Hall at 9 am, but we can also have you picked up elsewhere on campus or off campus if need be. Thanks so much.

Library Spotlight! Symposium: Prison State
This Symposium will explore the regional and pervasive impact of prison incarceration and the current debate around prison abolition. Specifically, we would like to engage in the conversation of prison abolition, reform, youth incarnation, cumulative trauma, rights of formerly incarcerated citizens, etc.
The inspiration for the theme is the Library's Special Collections' prison incarceration collection and the Library Gallery exhibit being hosted, called Prison Nation, simultaneously in Fall 2022.
Nine presentations are scheduled throughout the semester in the Gallery or virtually. All presentations will be streamed live.

Women and Work Empowerment Panel
USG Student Council and UMBC SWSA at Shady Grove hosted a Women and Work Empowerment Panel to wrap up women's month and social work month!
Two alumni joined the panel, along with alumni from school of nursing:
Katie Piura UMBC Social Work Grad
Malorie Gibson UMBC Social Work grad
Alice Mfroman UMB SON grad
The women shared about their journeys through UMBC, grad school, and USG. They also noted how they faced challenges, self-doubt, balancing school, family, and work, and persisted.
Three current UMBC Social Work students helped facilitate the event Elsy Estrada, Phumelele Ginindza, and Gisell Gonzalez.
