The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has recently released a new report on smoking rates of adults in the U.S. in 2012. The report compares its findings with rates over the past 16 years. Some key findings include:
- For 2012, the percentage of adults aged 18 and over who were current smokers (18.0%) was lower than 2011 (18.9%)
- The percentage of current smokers was higher for men (20.4%) than for women (15.8%)
- Non-Hispanic white adults were the most likely to be current smokers, followed by nonHispanic black adults and Hispanic adults.
