The Challenge and Excitement of Being a Student AND a CEO

Starting and growing a new business is both exciting and challenging. Now add onto that the
responsibilities of being a student as well!

Come listen to UMBC student entrepreneurs talk about their experiences in launching their companies.

Featured student panelists:
Martin Figueroa, '11, Managing Member, ROM Designs, LLC
Major: Media and Communications
ROM Designs, LLC specializes in the creation and sale of art on sneakers.

Christine Osazuwa, '11, CEO and Editor-in-Chief, Scene Trash Magazine &
Promotions
Major: Interdisciplinary Studies - Music Journalism and Management
Scene Trash Magazine is a regional monthly print magazine that focuses on unsigned and
independent bands on the East Coast. Both the magazine and promotions components set out to develop and gain exposure for up and coming bands.

Dehyu Sinyan, '11, President and CEO, Virtual Parent, LLC
Major: M.S. Systems Engineering
As an undergraduate student at UMBC, Dehyu came to the realization that time management
was not his strongest ability. Furthermore, there was no service provided that used popular
technology to assist students in learning how to manage their time, develop effective study
skills, and keep on track with their academic and personal schedules. Capitalizing on this
overwhelming need, Dehyu conceived the Virtual Parent, a service offering a copyrighted
dynamic scheduling application that provides university students with reminders about
academic and personal events through the use of automated text messages.

Undergraduate Research and Creative Achievement Day features research, scholarship, and creative work carried out by UMBC undergraduates. Student work is shared in many ways: oral presentations, poster sessions, artistic exhibits and performances, and film.

This campus celebration of achievement affirms UMBC's commitment to the twin goals of research and a distinctive undergraduate experience. This year’s event will be the fourteenth URCAD and will take place on Wednesday, April 28, 2010, in locations throughout the campus.

Many students presenting URCAD also receive transcript notations and/or credit for their hard work through the Shriver Center. Whether you are presenting this year, continuing on your project over the Summer or Fall terms and want to receive the transcript notation/credit or would be interested in presenting at a future URCAD, the Shriver Center can help!

Schedule an appointment with your coordinator by calling 410-455-2493 or stopping by our office on the first floor of the Public Policy Bldg. We look forward to seeing you soon!

Well look no further! The staff at the UMBC Shriver Center is here to help!

TO ADD INTERNSHIP/CO-OP/RESEARCH TO YOUR TRANSCRIPT:
1. Either call (410-455-2493) or stop by the Shriver Center on the ground floor of the Public Policy Building to make an appointment with a Coordinator.
2. Get a letter/memo from your employer (on company letterhead) verifying that you are interning 8-10 hours per week and bring it to your appointment.
3. Meet with your Coordinator to get enrolled in the Practicum (to have your internship/research noted on your transcript as a university sanctioned experience) and have your potential credit options explained to you.
4. Enjoy your internship, co-op, or research position this summer!
