Together Beyond November (Re)building Community after Election 2020 This is an unprecedented election year in which all of us are experiencing overlapping crises, including a global pandemic. Tensions are high even as people crave the feeling of connection. Members of our UMBC community may feel isolated, uncertain, or uncomfortable sharing their honest views. These feelings will likely last beyond Election Day 2020, especially if the outcomes are in dispute.

Together Beyond November: (Re)building Community after Election 2020 will allow inclusive conversations that can help people in your groups renew their connections and help each other through this challenging time. The Center for Democracy and Civic Life, Initiatives for Identity, Inclusion, and Belonging (I3B), Counseling Center, and leading campus educators in the use of restorative practices have organized this program as a part of the Cast Your Whole Vote campaign. Campus Life and your Student Government Association will be hosting two sessions that you can participate in on:

The Treasurer Support Team (TST) is a group of students who are dedicated in supporting and providing resources to student organizations as they navigate the Finance Board at UMBC. This team works with the Treasurer to implement effective communication and support for student organizations. The team is also a part of the Student Government Association and works in conjunction with other SGA branches to support student organizations and strive to make the UMBC better through their work and efforts.

There are two positions available for the Treasurer Support Team.
Stipend that are paid $656.50 annually in four prorated installments.

Treasurer Support Team Application

The Student Organization Support Team (SOST) is a group of students who are dedicated in supporting and providing resources to student organizations at UMBC. This team works with the Vice President for Student Organizations to implement effective communication, programming and support for student organizations. The team is also a part of the Student Government Association and works in conjunction with other SGA branches to support student organizations and strive to make the UMBC community better through their work and efforts. 

The following positions are available to apply for on the SOST
  • Student Organization Committee Representative: $631.25 annually in four prorated installments.
  • Coordinator of Programming: $631.25 annually in four prorated installments.
  • Assistant Director of Coalition and Cultural Organizing: $757.50 annually in four prorated installments.

Are your emotions impacting your leadership? Can emotions and leadership even go together?  Join leadership peer facilitator, Kiyah Carter, in her Leading with Emotions virtual workshop. This workshop focuses on students involved in leadership roles or organizations on campus.  Viewers will be able to identify the importance of self-awareness and managing emotions.

Meet the presenter:

Kiyah Carter, she/ her/hers, is a Senior Psychology major here at UMBC. Kiyah’s favorite color is purple and she loves Spicy Sweet Doritos. Kiyah believes that leadership is defined as helping and guiding individuals with intention to achieve a goal. Her goals as a Leadership Peer Facilitator (LPF) are to empower students and improve her facilitation and public speaking skills. Outside of being a LPF, Kiyah is involved in UMBC’s Gospel Choir. Is being seen the only way to lead? Join leadership peer facilitator, Caleb Cagle, in his Leading from the Sidelines virtual workshop as he challenges the tale-as-old-as-time: "all leaders are extroverts". This workshop focuses on what introverted leadership looks like and the influence it holds. 

Meet the Presenter:

Caleb Cagle (he/him/his), is a Junior Information Systems major here at UMBC. Caleb’s favorite colors are blue and forest/emerald green and he loves healthy foods like granola bars, fresh fruit and vegetables but is always down for some candy. Caleb believes that leadership is setting the example and maintaining integrity both of yourself and your communities. Doing what is "right" even if it goes against the rules. His goals as a Leadership Peer Facilitator (LPF) are to really branch out and be really active within UMBC as a whole. He was recently hired to be apart of the election board of SGA but also would like to get involved with SEB, join more clubs and discover more about other cultures as well as aspects of myself that I may have overlooked. Outside of being a LPF, Caleb works two jobs, plays soccer, and is a member of the Hispanic Culture Club, ChewMBC, Sailing Team and an IHU peer facilitator.
