They will coordinate all communication efforts with the support of the other members of the Department of Communications, and lead Department of Communications meetings.</div><div><br></div><div><strong>What is the time commitment for the Director of Communications? </strong></div><div><br></div><div>The Director of Communications is required to set a regular date and time for Department of Communications meetings, based on the availability of the other members of the Department. Outside of meetings, the expectation for the Director is 5 - 10 hours per week of SGA-related work. Note that some weeks may be more involved than others. Your SGA work should not get in the way of self-care time and studying for your classes - you come first! </div><div><br></div><div><strong>What do you get in return as the Director of Communications? </strong></div><div><br></div><div>This is the perfect opportunity to make your mark on the UMBC community, and work with students, faculty, staff, and administrators to make meaningful change for years to come. You will have an essential role in the way students view and interact with SGA and, consequently, the work SGA does. Outside of meetings, the expectation for the Administrator is 3 - 7 hours per week of SGA-related work. Note that some weeks may be more involved than others. Your SGA work should not get in the way of self-care time and studying for your classes - you come first! </div><div><br></div><div><strong>What do you get in return as the Administrator of the Executive Council? </strong></div><div><br></div><div>This is the perfect opportunity to make your mark on the UMBC community, and work with students, faculty, staff, and administrators to make meaningful change for years to come. Your work will be essential to maintaining organization within SGA, which will make us a more effective and efficient organization! The Administrator of the Executive Council is also paid an annual stipend.</div><div><br></div><div><strong>What happened to SGA Departments or Units?</strong></div><div><br></div><div>It's all about collaboration. In our experience, titles like "Unit Coordinator of &lt;&lt;insert specific category here&gt;&gt; create labels and are barriers for collaboration. Our interest is getting initiatives and projects done - not assigning titles. At the beginning of the year, Executive Council members will determine what opportunities on campus and in our community most interest them. They will build a team of individuals that are dedicated to improving our campus.</div><div><br></div><div>From academic affairs, to health and wellness, to diversity and inclusion, to environmental sustainability, to service and community outreach, to civic engagement, to everything in between -- Executive Council members will work with their team to implement solutions to campus concerns. Addressing these concerns could involve coordinating town halls, collaborating with administration to develop a campus-wide initiative, or engaging organizations outside the loop. </div><div><br></div><div>Even if you don't have a specific initiative in mind, you are still encouraged to apply to the Executive Council! You can work with other members to develop an initiative. </div><div><br></div><div><strong>What is the time commitment for a member of the Executive Council? </strong></div><div><br></div><div>Executive Council members have the opportunity to make their own schedules.     <div class="html-content"><span><p><span>Below is a list of the students who submitted applications to run for SGA positions in the April election. This list is preliminary and not final (the names listed below will be checked for eligibility and may appear differently on the ballot, including their order).</span></p><p><span>In order to be elected, candidates (even those running unopposed) must receive at least 5% of the number of total votes cast in the election. Candidates for the executive positions are elected by the Instant Runoff system, while candidates for Senate and Finance Board are elected by plurality. The top eleven vote receiving candidates will be elected to Senate. The top five vote receiving candidates will be elected to Finance Board. Write-in votes are permitted in SGA elections.</span></p><p><strong>The election will take place via myUMBC from 7pm to 7am nightly on Monday April 23rd, Tuesday April 24th, and Wednesday April 25th.</strong></p><p><span>The Election Board is hosting two events to promote the election.     <div class="html-content">Are you interested in gaining facilitation experience applicable in virtually all careers? Do you want to show students that leadership is something that can be learned? If you said yes to any of these, apply to be a Peer Facilitator for RLI! <div><br></div><div><div>The Retriever Leadership Institute (RLI) is a free 5-week leadership development workshop series just for UMBC students. Participants will meet once per week for 1.5 hours with their peer facilitators in one of four contextualized cohorts: Commuter Retrievers, Transfer Retrievers, Honors College Retrievers, and Residential Retrievers. During RLI, students will engage in meaningful learning about their values as a leader, working in teams, managing conflict, social identity, and much more. </div><div><br></div><div>Peer Facilitators prepare and facilitate 5 weekly workshop sessions in pairs. Outside of your weekly sessions, you meet in your peer facilitator pairs weekly to plan for that week's session. You are also responsible for attending weekly RLI trainings on Fridays at 3 p.m. The amount of time spent every week is roughly five hours. </div><div><br></div></div><div><strong>The application is due on April 3 at 11:59PM. Applicants selected for interview will interview Wednesday April 4 - Friday April 6 during allotted time periods.     <div class="html-content">Are you interested in gaining facilitation experience applicable in virtually all careers? Do you want to show students that leadership is something that can be learned? If you said yes to any of these, apply to be a Peer Facilitator for RLI! <div><br></div><div><div>The Retriever Leadership Institute (RLI) is a free 5-week leadership development workshop series just for UMBC students. Participants will meet once per week for 1.5 hours with their peer facilitators in one of four contextualized cohorts: Commuter Retrievers, Transfer Retrievers, Honors College Retrievers, and Residential Retrievers. During RLI, students will engage in meaningful learning about their values as a leader, working in teams, managing conflict, social identity, and much more. </div><div><br></div><div>Peer Facilitators prepare and facilitate 5 weekly workshop sessions in pairs. Outside of your weekly sessions, you meet in your peer facilitator pairs weekly to plan for that week's session. You are also responsible for attending weekly RLI trainings on Fridays at 3 p.m. The amount of time spent every week is roughly five hours. </div><div><br></div></div><div><strong>The application is due on April 3 at 11:59PM. Applicants selected for interview will interview Wednesday April 4 - Friday April 6 during allotted time periods.
