Session with sexual misconduct prevention/response consultant team


On March 1, Retriever Courage partnerswill hold a second information gathering session with Jody Shipper, J.D., and Cherie Scricca, Ed.D. of Grand River Solutions, Inc., our consultant team, from 12 to 1 p.m. in the Proscenium Theatre, Performing Arts and Humanities Building.


Participants will be invited to share ideas, experiences, and concerns with the consultants in order to inform their work at UMBC. This will not be a traditional Q&A format. Rather, the consultants will be listening for direct input from the UMBC community.

From the Department of Gender + Women's Studies:

Elect Her–Campus Women Win is the only program in the country that encourages and trains college women to run for student government and future political office. A project of Running Start, a national organization committed to bringing more women into elected positions, Elect Her addresses the need to expand the pipeline to women running for office and to diminish the longstanding political leadership gender gap. 

UMBC's workshop will be held on Saturday, March 9th from 10:30am-3:30pm in Fine Arts Building at room 011. Breakfast and lunch will be provided (and it will be delicious). You will learn how to figure out what your message and platform is, how to craft a communication strategy that works, and you'll hear from campus and community leaders about what it takes to win. It is going to be a great day!

These skills will be applicable not only for running for office, but for helping advance your student organization, make good arguments on the job, and develop confidence in your skills as a leader. The training is open to all students of all genders, so please join us!

Campus Life is partially sponsoring up to two students to attend ACPA’s Next Generation Conference (NextGen). NextGen is a two day institute for current undergraduate students occurring Saturday and Sunday, 2-3 March, 2019 in Boston, Massachusetts.


The NextGen experience provides an opportunity for undergraduate students to learn more about student affairs and higher education. The NextGen curriculum is jam packed with educational sessions, networking and mentoring opportunities, and time for self-reflection and exploration. NextGen is a fantastic opportunity for your students to network, learn, and do some discernment related to student affairs. At the end of the two day institute, attendees will be able to articulate: is a career and/or degree in higher education and student affairs right for me?


Campus Life has funds for up to two students to cover their conference registration and partial hotel and travel costs (up to a total of $500).
