Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week began in 1972 at Villanova University by a group of students who coordinated a week of activities around issues of homelessness. NHHAW is an annual event held the week before Thanksgiving and is jointly sponsored by the National Student Campaign against Hunger and Homelessness (NSCHH) and the National Coalition for the Homeless (NCH).
For 2011, National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week is Saturday, November 12th - Sunday, November 20th. A series of events have been planned across the Baltimore area over the course of the week, and will culminate in a sleep-out in front of City Hall.
There are currently 8 universities and colleges from the Baltimore area planning for hunger and homelessness awareness week. Click the links to the left to learn more about the city-wide events, and events that individual campuses are organizing.
