The
Smithsonian Environmental Research Center (SERC) is home to 18 research
laboratories, one of which is the Global Change Research Wetland. This
lab is working
on two wetland research projects that could use volunteer help! Both
projects involve recording the cover of plants in plots and using
techniques to measure biomass production. Candidates should be available
for full days (although field work can take anywhere
from 5-8 hours), at least once a week, and have an interest in
biogeochemistry! All work will be based in Edgewater, MD. Training is
required, so repeat volunteers are preferred. The scientists are looking
to get started as soon as possible, and will be working
for about 4-6 weeks (mid-September through the end of October). This is
a great opportunity to gain experience working in the field, and to
make connections with Smithsonian researchers and staff. For more
