A Spring Break Alternative Service Trip Available!
Break A Difference has been creating Alternative Break programs for nearly 10 years, engaging hundreds of student volunteers annually during their school breaks. B·A·D Alternative Break programs provide week long immersive service experiences for young adults nationwide. In addition to fun-filled social & team-building activities outside of dedicated service hours, we include a visit to nearby tourist landmarks.
B·A·D Alternative Breaks include housing, on-the-ground transportation, all meals, organized service projects, social activities and rich programming that encourages volunteers to examine the larger context of the social or environmental issues they are addressing.

It is the students responsibilty to arrange transportation to the destination but once there your trip fee covers the experience! All volunteers fundraise and/or pay a $350 participation fee that is 100% tax-deductible. Each volunteer is given the tools to create a personal fundraising page through FirstGiving, allowing them ask their friends and family members to help offset their out-of-pocket costs (including travel costs) through tax-deductible online donations. This participation fee helps us provide valuable programming and support at no cost to our nonprofit partners.
Volunteers will spend their Break enhancing after-school programming for the kids and staff of child development agencies in Newark and the SF Bay area; playing tag, laughing, reading stories, giving high-fives, making secret handshakes, doing science experiments, bonding with people they've never met, doing arts & crafts projects, sharing smiles, sleeping on cots, tying shoes, exploring new places, teaching, making new friends, making 100 new friends and making a difference.
