In 2009, Congress designated 9/11 as a National Day of Service and Remembrance as a way to honor the legacy of those lost in 2001. This Day of Service also helps to unite Americans in the same way that we all came together after the attacks on our nation, to work for a cause greater than ourselves.
As part of this national initiative, the UMBC Shriver Center is hosting a day of service, open to any students who are interested in volunteering, on Friday, September 14th from 1:00-5:00 PM. If you and/or your campus organization are interested in taking part in this great opportunity, please contact us at bealternativeUMBC@gmail.com.
Additionally, if any student organizations have planned service projects of their own to commemorate 9/11, we'd love to hear what you will be involved with, and feel free to let us know if you would like us to spread the word about your event.
We look forward to seeing everybody out and working to make our communities a better place!
