“Serial” hearing resumes
The 1999 Maryland murder case made famous by the “Serial” podcast has re-entered the public eye as a court reopened a retrial request hearing. Lawyers for the defendant, 35-year old Adnan Syed, argued that issues involving cell phone evidence and legal counsel had made the original trail unfair. Syed was found guilty of strangling his ex-girlfriend and sentenced to life in prison. Judge Martin Welch had called to prolong the hearing to Monday after it was originally scheduled to end last Friday.
Assault and hit-and-run in Fells Point
Police arrested a man who fled an assault at a Fells Point bar and struck a woman with his car on Saturday night. Police state that 28-year old Orlando Redd was assaulted inside a bar and fled the scene in his minivan. He then struck a stopped car at a traffic light; when reversing his direction, he then struck Jill Boram, who suffered critical injuries including a fractured skull and broken ribs. Redd was issued several charged including first- and second-degree assault and endangerment.
Local radio icon passes away
DJ Reggie Reg, a well-renowned Baltimore radio DJ, passed away at St. Agnes Hospital at the age of 50 on Saturday. According to his sister, Reg had been suffering from congestive heart failure. Reg had previously worked at the Baltimore radio station 92Q.
