Retriever Robotics: At the FRC Competition!
Never forget where you came from
Retriever Robotics (RR) teamed up with Alpha Sigma Kappa - Women in Technical Studies to attend the FRC competition as spectators. FRC stands for FIRST Robotics Competition and is a robotics competition for high school students. During high school, many RR members were members of FRC teams. Some of those teams include Team 007 (pronounced "Double 'O Seven", like James Bond) and REX.

CEOs and robotics... let's compete!
On Sunday, Retriever Robotics participated in RoboCEO. The CEOs from companies like Mindgrub competed against each other in a VEX tournament using robots made by surrounding schools. Retriever Robotics: Volunteering at FLL
On Saturday, March 1st, Retriever Robotics (RR) members were a few of the approximately 300 volunteers helping out at the FIRST Lego League (FLL) State Championship tournament at UMBC. FLL is for elementary and middle school students and those students build and program lego robots.
RR members worked throughout the competition with jobs ranging from greeter to crowd control to assistant referee. There was even one RR member who started at 6:30 AM and worked until 5:30 PM!
Congratulations to all of the FLL teams! You should all be extremely proud of yourselves! Keep up the great work!

Retriever Robotics: Ready for our Competition!
Good luck tomorrow!
If you haven't noticed, a few people have been walking around campus with pins that have dogs made out of gears. Yes, it's an awesome design, but that's not the only reason we have been wearing them. Tomorrow is the first robotics competition UMBC will be competing in. It is an exciting time for both Retriever Robotics (RR) and UMBC! The competition itself is for VEX U and we will be traveling to La Plata, MD to compete.

Retriever Robotics Visits Venture Crew!
Supporting our members... supporting robotics!
On January 12, 2014, Shelby and Alex went to support Mathew, their fellow robotics member, with his Venture Crew's "Scrimmage Day"!
Venture Crew is an organization similar to Boy's Scouts, except that each team picks the projects they want to work on. Mathew's group decided to focus on STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) topics. Venture Crew teamed up with the Baltimore City Robotics Center (located in the same building as the B&O Railroad Museum) to host a scrimmage for VEX U competitors. At the event, two full VEX U fields were set-up. We also had fun playing with a helicopter and a Sphero, which is a remote control ball that is controlled using an iPad!
Congratulations Mathew on having a successful event! We were happy to be there to support you and cannot wait for more activities between Retriever Robotics and Venture Crew!
