The CCMA AmeriCorps VISTA will be responsible for mapping and connecting numerous food initiatives on campus and building the capacity for, and implementing, a sustainable food access pantry and programming on campus. Retriever Essentials at UMBC will connect the VISTA with organizations, faculty, and staff who are working to tackle food instability in the campus community. The VISTA will work to bring these groups together, create sustainable partnerships between these stakeholders, and ensure the effectiveness of the programs being offered.The VISTA will also work to support a full-time food pantry to serve the community, regularly hold community dinners to increase awareness about food insecurity issues on our campus and beyond, and run outreach programs and workshops for individuals experiencing chronic food insecurity and homelessness. The VISTA will develop and revitalize the campus connection to the Food Recovery Network, SWES, and Maryland Food Bank.

Position starts June 22, 2018 and is for the period of one (1) year.  Please apply as soon as possible.

Have extra meals on your red card that you aren’t able to use? Students on a meal plan can now “save a swipe” to donate up to one meal a week to a shared pool. Those meals will be distributed to students in need through Counseling Services to be used in True Grit’s. 225 Block meal plans will have 16 meals deducted when you sign up. Recurring meals per week (Flexible 10, 14, Terrific 12, Savvy 16) will have one meal deducted each week. Ultimate Meal Plan holders will be donating their Friday lunch meal, students on the Ultimate will not be able to use a meal from 11:00 am - 4:00pm on Friday. Ultimate plan holders can still use their flex, retriever dollars or food funds. These meals are non-revocable once submitted. You may sign up during the beginning of the semester until the drop/add date (February 9th for Spring 2018).
