Service Learning Practicum with Retriever Essentials
Happy Friday, everyone!
We are still looking for undergraduate students to sign up for Prac 096 and join our service learning teams.
What you'll do:
- Thursdays 1:45 to 3:30 PM - help us set up, run, and break down our Free Farmer's Market events.
- Fridays 1:00 to 3:00 PM - help out collecting and sorting donations and stocking our shelves.
What you'll get:
New friends, an opportunity to give back to your campus, and credit on your transcript showing that you participated in service learning.
Prac 096 is a P/NP, 0 credit course.

Volunteer opportunity: Pack lunches @ True Grits
Help us stock to-go meals in our fridge! Sign up for one day or many. Find the sign

INSTRUCTIONS:
Please meet at 1:50 PM at True Grits. Introduce yourself as a Retriever Essentials volunteer to the cashier at the front and they will direct you where to go. Dining Hall staff will have to-go containers ready. Please label containers with the type of meat or label them as vegetarian or vegan. After the meals are packed, bring them to The Essential Space, located in room 235 on the second floor of the RAC. If you borrow a cart from True Grits, please return it to True Grits. You should be finished at 3:00 PM at the latest. Thank you for your time and for helping us reduce waste and feed our community!

Retriever Essentials Spring 2023 Hours & FAQs
Starting today, The Essential Space (located in RAC 235) has new hours for the Spring 2023 semester:
Mondays: 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM
Tuesdays: 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM and 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM
Wednesdays: 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM and 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM
Thursdays: 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM and 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM
**Please note that during any days the RAC is closed, The Essential Space will also be closed.
Retriever Essentials FAQs:
Q: Do you have [food/toiletry item] in stock?
A: Maybe! Currently, it's hard to predict what we will have, but we make an effort to stock toiletries, frozen meat and veggies, milk, gluten-free items, ready-to-eat meals, and even baby items as often as we can. We can't guarantee any one item will be available, but there's always a variety of items to choose from.
Q: What are the eligibility requirements to get food at The Essential Space, Free Farmer's Markets, and Food Zones?
A: None! Everyone is welcome and encouraged to come. We know financial decision-making is complex, so come fill up or just drop by to check us out. We won't ask you for any documentation.
Q: If I get food and toiletries from The Essential Space, won't I be taking it away from someone who needs it more?
A: No, we have enough to go around. Our community has generously provided items to us so we can redistribute them to you to make your semester just a little bit easier. As a student and a human being, you're entitled to a filling and nutritious diet.
Q: How often can I come to The Essential Space?
A: As often as you want to. Welcome!

Free Farmer's Markets start again 2/2! Want to volunteer?
Retriever Essentials, AOK Library, and So What Else are partnering up again this semester to bring you Free Farmer's Markets!
NEW LOCATION
Due to the cold weather, AOK Library has graciously agreed to let us use the loading dock for this event through March. To find the loading dock: from inside the library, exit through the front doors. Turn left and walk alongside the building (past the RLC, toward the parking lot). Turn left at the end of the building and you will see a driveway. That's the loading dock. If you would like a nearby pin in Google Maps, search for 1046 Walker Ave, Baltimore, MD 21250.
The event starts at 2:15 PM and lasts until 3 PM or until food runs out.
**Bring your own bag!**
Volunteers: to volunteer, you must
sign up here. Please plan on being present from 1:45 to 3:15.
Please note that fresh produce will be limited during the colder months and will be substituted with shelf-stable/non-perishable items.

Three Volunteers Wanted for Wednesday 12/14 from 11-2
Hello, Retrievers!
We are looking for 2-3 more volunteers to help out by volunteering at our event. We are co-sponsoring StudyCon with AOK Library and Academic Success and are looking for someone to help with tasks such as scanning IDs, facilitating a (very simple!) craft, or handing out goodies.
