Before you leave for Spring Break, you’ll need to do a few things.  Following this checklist below will help to reduce the risk of fire, minimize pest problems and increase the security of your room and its contents.

• Unplug all appliances and extension cords from electrical wall sockets.  Exception:  You may leave refrigerators and fish tanks plugged in after checking to make sure electrical connections are safe… that is, not running under rugs, not hanging loosely out of the wall, or plugged into a thin extension cord.
• Turn off all water completely.  Make sure faucets and shower heads are not dripping.
• Clean your bathroom well.  Suggestion:  to avoid a stuffy bathroom when you return, leave your bathroom door open to allow air to circulate.  Make sure it’s okay with your suitemates before leaving the door unlocked.
• Remove all trash/recyclables and dispose of it in the trash room or in a dumpster.
• Check your window to be sure it is securely locked.  If you should find your window unlocked and cannot lock it, notify your RA or FXIT (x53948).

• Leave blinds and shades open except for first floor – first floor rooms should fully CLOSE shades or blinds

• Feed your fish and water your plants.  Remember, you won’t be able to get back in until 12 Noon on Sunday, March 25.
• Turn off your lights.  If you’re the last one to leave from your suite, make sure the bathroom light / fan is off.  Also turn off your alarm clock.
• Remember to pack any medications or others necessities you might need.
• Lock your door and take your key with you.
• Tape this checklist to your door on your way out.
• Secure your vehicle if you are leaving it on campus.

Your RA will conduct a pre-break inspection of each room.  Please help save time by following checkout procedures.

Additional Details:

1. Upon registration and ticket purchase, you will receive a confirmation email that will include an itinerary, instructions on how to retrieve your tickets, and other pertinent details.

2. If selecting to room with friends, please be sure that all friends register, purchase a ticket, and submit the names of requested roommates. Please note: You will not receive a confirmation email if all parties do not purchase a ticket.

3. The UMBC Fan Bus will be departing campus from The Commons Loop (near The Commons Garage) at 9:00am on Friday, March 16. We will travel to Charlotte, NC in time to see UMBC vs. UVA!

4. If you are purchasing a travel package, we will be staying at The Best Western Plus, Pineville-Charlotte South. It is located at 9825 Leitner Drive, Pineville, NC 28134. The bus will arrive to the hotel at approximately 4:00pm. You will have time to settle in and unpack before needing to be back on the bus by 5:45pm. We will then depart for the arena. Your game ticket gets you access to the Creighton vs. Kansas State game at 6:50pm, as well as the UMBC vs. UVA game at 9:20pm. If you choose to not attend the first game, you will be dropped off at the arena with the option to explore Uptown Charlotte on your own until the game begins. The bus will depart shortly after the end of the UMBC game, at approximately 12:00am. Communication about departure will be shared during the trip.

Come get your questions answered about Housing Selection and also any questions about Walker Avenue Apartments.  Housing application and license submission deadline is March 27th and on-line Room Selection begins on April 4th.  You can also refer to the web site for questions: www.umbc.edu/reslife 

Roommate Mixer is TONIGHT at 7:30 p.m. also in the Apartment Community Center - Qdoba food will be served - come find a new roommate!  Remember no 3-person groups can participate in Housing Selection so if you currently have a group of 3 you will need to add a 4th person to your group in order to be able to select a space during on-line selection.
