We'll be at RAC in Black to promote Recyclemania! Each trash can will be paired with a recycle and compost bin and someone stationed their to talk to people about what can go in each bin. We'll also play a game on the court at halftime- toss the recyclables into the bin type thing, with prizes to boot. We'll also have trivia/prizes and an outreach table in the lobby. Afterwards, we'll weigh all of it. Can you help us find volunteers? They don't even need to be experts, especially if they are going to be stationed at the bins! We can come up with a training/briefing/cheat sheet for them- also with a t-shirt/hat/button or something to distinguish them.
After that we'll be having a table on Commons Mainstreet every Wednesday at free hour. That means we'll have a different theme each each (e-cycling, plastic bag recycling, compost info session, clothing swap, etc). We are asking student orgs across campus to adopt a week. All they need to do is send over volunteers, and plan a themed activity if they want. If they don't want to plan the activity, we'll set them up with a trivia game and giveaways or some sort of craft, depending on the week and what jives with the group.
We'll be kicking that off with Luvapalooza and Valentines day. Wednesday the 13th and Thursday the 14th from 10am to 1:30pm. We are hoping to get the bike blender and make smoothies... and maybe paper pulp for making our own recycled paper for valentines. Or valentines crafts from other recycled materials. Or recycled-paper flowers... or other fun ideas we can come up with! We'll also want to put together some sort of info display on what recyclemania is and tips on what gets recycled, how, and where (aka paper recycling is separated from bottles/cans/plastics and now compost too).
Every Wednesday will also be "wear green Wednesday". We'll have Green Man, our mascot, show up to our Wednesday events and have people take pictures with him. By wearing green and coming by to get a photo, they can get register for the raffle to win a Kindle! Or... instead of that, we'll make some sort of contest- like a poster contest, slogan contest, decorating contest, video contest... something fun! And they will have to get the most points from the campus community to win, so they will want to spread the word to their networks!
Let me know if you have any additional ideas or suggestions on how we can do this, and looking forward to working together on this! It'll be fun, we'll get the word out and we'll save the world and change campus for the better!
