UMBC's has an excellent track record in our junior faculty securing NSF CAREER awards, a prestigious program which supports research early in the recipient's career.
Last Wednesday, May 11th, UMBC held a workshop on the CAREER award mechanism, led by Marie desJardins (COEIT Associate Dean, Professor of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering, CAREER '06) and including Michelle Starz-Gaiano (Associate Professor of Biological Sciences, CAREER '11) and Chris Hennigan (Assistant Professor of Chemical, Biochemical and Environmental Engineering, CAREER '15). More than 30 UMBC professors participated in the workshop as prospective CAREER award applicants.
