An update on UMBC’s response to federal actions and orders

On April 9, President Valerie Shears Ashby shared a campus-wide announcement regarding updates on the university’s response to federal actions and orders and the work ahead to continue undeterred in advancing UMBC’s mission and vision and standing up for our institutional values. CNMS Science Discovery Series returns April 15
The College of Natural and Mathematical Sciences (CNMS) will be hosting its next “CNMS Science Discovery Series” event on April 15 with the presentation “A ‘model’ world: How mathematical modeling underpins discoveries from engineering to medicine,” presented by Justin Webster, associate professor of mathematics and statistics. In this public series, faculty members in CNMS present talks on a variety of interesting scientific topics. Register for the event here. 

This week marks the return of the university’s annual Undergraduate Research and Creative Achievement Day (URCAD), now in its 29th year. The day-long research showcase, happening on April 16 in University Center, will feature undergraduate research presentations, exhibits, screenings, and the alumni keynote address delivered by Randi Williams ’16, computer engineering. Eminent Scholar Lecture with anthropologist Deborah A. Thomas
The Department of Sociology, Anthropology, and Public Health will be hosting its Eminent Scholar Lecture event featuring anthropologist Dr. Deborah A. Thomas on April 17. Thomas will present her lecture “The Question of Bodily Sovereignty, or Anthropology as Vulnerable Praxis.” More information on the event can be found here.
