Hi All,
Will and I scheduled Bmore Proud this morning with Shannon Booker. The only date they had available for us was Saturday May 5th. (This might be perfect though because that's the week that we have targeted to open the GLBTQIA Center...) This is close to finals but if we start advertising now, it shouldn't be that much of an issue. Jess Myers, acting Director of the Women's Center is willing to have staff help us out; we just have to let her know.
Also, as far as the workgroups are concerned, she mentioned that she has a friend who teaches about trans-issues for student leaders and RA's in Chicago. It's a good way to educate about the issues faced by transgender individuals in college. I think this is something that we should consider; however, we'd have to pay her airfare (she'd be staying with Jess, so no hotel).
Also, as the Ballroom and adjoining space can accomodate up to 650 people now (I think) there is a potential for a tremendous turnout for the event. This means that we are going to have to start requesting money and fundraising every opportunity we can in order to have enough funds to pull this together. We would need to provide at least coffee/muffins for breakfast and a brown bag lunch. I am not sure of dinner as the Commons and such would be open. Also, I reserved the room from 8am until 1am so we can have the Ballroom for the social/dance party afterward right there in the Ballroom, as well. This means we'd have to consider dinner expenses. For the speakers we'd need to provide all three meals, plus transportation, etc. (Alex, maybe you could let me know who to contact for fundraising opportunities through the summer?)
For those of us here during the summer, lets consider fundraising opportunities for the summer. I will be here and can help out by scheduling and volunteering.
Also, since visibility is my workgroup, does anyone want to participate in the Pride parade in Baltimore (if it's not already too late...)
Thanks in advance for all your help!!
