The report was published by the National Association of Scholars, and argues for the importance of thorough debate on these policy issues in higher education.

Professor Emeritus George LaNoue has published a new book review of John M. Cary, Katherine Clayton, and Yusaku Horiuchi's book "Campus Diversity: The Hidden Consensus," Cambridge University Press, 2020. 

The review titled "Seeking Diversity, Selecting Discrimination" was published in Academic Questions, July 23, 2020. 

Tracing the histories of key court cases taken after Hurricane Katrina, the paper argues for "for integrating courts into the governance of risks and hazards, and for following trial courts and process."

The Graduate Legislative Fellows Program offers top students in Maryland graduate programs an immersive experience in the legislative process working alongside nonpartisan staff within the Department of Legislative Services (DLS), the professional staff agency for the Maryland General Assembly (MGA). Fellows will work during the General Assembly’s annual 90-day legislative session (Jan – April) and assist legal, fiscal and committee staff with their regular session duties. As a Fellow, you will work directly with policy analysts to help identify and analyze public policy issues and formulate legislative proposals. Your work may include written legal memoranda, fiscal analyses, periodic publications, and briefings to legislative committees. $2,500 stipend is included.

Congratulations to UMBC's 2020-2021 Fulbright recipients!

"Ten recent UMBC alumni are recipients of 2020 – 2021 Fulbright U.S. Student Program awards, including seven from UMBC’s Class of 2020. Each year over 11,000 students apply and just over 2,000 are selected from hundreds of colleges and universities across the United States. The award secures funding for U.S. students to pursue international graduate study, research, internships, or teaching."

Included in the list of recipients is recent Spring 2020 M.P.P. graduate Kiplyn Jones, who will travel to Jordan to teach English. 

Public Policy's Prof. John Rennie Short has been awarded a Faculty Fulbright to conduct research in Southeast Asia on  South China Sea geopolitics. He will be based out of both the Asian Center at the University of the Philippines in Diliman, Philippines, and the Centre for ASEAN Regionalism in the Asia-Europe Institute of the University of Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Public Policy Professor Zoë McLaren was hosted on Bill Nye (The Science Guy!)'s podcast "Science Rules!" where she discussed the importance of rapid tests in driving down COVID transmission rates. 

Bill Nye's podcast episode "Coronavirus: Everything you could possibly want to know about testing" features Prof. McLaren diving into questions about testing frequency, reliability, and how rapid screening tests can help open schools and businesses sooner.
