<Title>Makayla Gleeson awarded Dr. Louis Cantori scholarship</Title>

    <div class="html-content"><strong>Makayla Gleeson </strong>(BA Political Science expected December 2018), a UMBC senior also admitted to the the Public Policy Accelerated Pathways MPP program in the public management specialization, was recently awarded the Dr. Louis Cantori Scholarship.    The Cantori family established the scholarship in honor of Dr. Louis Cantori,Professor Emeritus, Department of Political after his death in 2008. <span>In addition to his scholarship and many important contributions over the years in the Department of Political Science, Dr. Cantori </span><span>served as faculty adviser to the UMBC Crew team. He thought these scholar-athletes epitomized the exceptionalism of UMBC. </span><div><span><br></span></div><div><div>Besides her outstanding academic performance here at UMBC,  Makayla has been on the UMBC women's rugby team for two years and is a third degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do.  Upon graduation she thinks she would like to become become a lobbyist, or campaign manager.</div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div><br><div><br></div><div><br><br></div></div></div></div>

<Title>Laszlo Korossy, PhD '16  named "Adjunct Teacher of the Year"</Title>

    <div class="html-content">Laszlo Korossy, Ph.D., '16 was honored on April 18, 2018, at the annual UMBC Political Science Reception, with a plaque for <em>Adjunct Teacher of the Year for 2017-2018 </em>.<div><br></div><div>The recipients are selected though a student poll.  Dr. Korossy teaches Political Science undergraduate courses at the Shady Grove campus.</div><div><div><div>A popular professor on that campus, this is not the first time Laszlo has been recognized by his students for this honor.</div></div><div><br></div><div>For UMBC, Laszlo teaches <span>Urban Politics, Urban Problems and Policy Analysis, Quantitative Methodology, and Chinese Politics at the Shady Grove Campus.<br>He also teaches Poli 101 at Howard Community College, and</span></div><div><span>Criminal Justice and other political science courses for the University of Maryland at College Park.</span></div><div><div></div></div><div><br></div></div></div>

    <div class="html-content">Dr. Lauren Hamilton Edwards and doctoral student Ian Klein presented on a panel in Chicago at the Midwest Political Science Associate conference (April 2018):   The panel was part of a larger book project called  <u>Policing and Race in America: Economic, Political, and Social Dynamics</u>  (2017). edited by Dr. James D. Ward.<div><br></div><div>Dr. Hamilton Edwards and Mr. Klein presented on their chapter in the book,</div><div>"Community Policing as a Solution: What is the Evidence?"  and a new piece called "What Gets Measured Gets Done: The Darker Side of Performance in Policing". </div><div><div><br></div><div>Dr. Ward, and Dr. Susan Sterett served as discussants on the panel.<img src="null" style="max-width: 100%; height: auto;"></div><div><br></div><div>Ian Klein is the first recipient of a travel grant from the Adam Yarmonlinsky student fellowship/travel grant.</div><div><br></div></div></div>
