Thus, as part of the Homegrown Foodways Series: Baltimore and New Orleans, we introduce "El Camino del Pan y el Mole," which takes a visual ethnography approach to document these rich stories and relatively new Mexican foodways traditions in each city."

Baltimore City Schools has become a FoodCorps host site -- a nationwide AmeriCorps service-year program focused on food access and education. Great Kids Farm will host 3 food education fellows beginning in August of 2023. Job description: LINK.

How to apply: see below.

We'll train our food education team in all of our programs, and the team will teach both at the farm and at schools across the city. We're eager to hire a passionate educator team which reflects the diversity of Baltimore City and City Schools students. The position is an 11-month role from the end of August 2023 to the end of July 2024. AmeriCorps members earn "living stipends" in place of salaries. This year's stipend is $33,000 for all 11 months. Applicants receive basic health and dental insurance, and are eligible for a $6,895 award toward education expenses at the completion of the year.

There are some additional benefits! See below for:

Who are we looking for?

The job application information for all Baltimore and DC area openings.

Application instructions

Additional benefits information

Note: Anyone applying for the Baltimore site should let us know if you're applying so we can flag your application in the national pool.

Questions? Thoughts? Help applying? Please don't hesitate to reach out to "L" -- lnmenyuk@bcps.k12.md.us or by call or text: 301-580-5421

Who are we looking for?

Applicants are not required to have prior experience teaching nor with cooking or gardening, but prior experience working with kids will be a great benefit and confidence to stand up in front of large groups of kids is a must. We look forward to welcoming applicants who are eager learners of our methods of experiential education, and responsive classroom. Successful applicants will also demonstrate that they are great communicators in a team setting, which includes using email and other digital tools effectively: we have lots of moving pieces. We need to provide constant feedback to each other and we need to store notes and documents in shared files that everyone knows how to access. Finally, applicants will need to be adaptable to the pros and cons of working in a bureaucratic environment as members of both a national service corps program AND of a large urban school system -- For example, you'll have mandatory meetings and check-ins throughout the year, and rigid time-keeping standards. Keeping an organized calendar will be key! Applicants must have a GED or be high school graduates, and must be at least 18.

LINK: Baltimore & DC Job Description

Instructions To Apply: Read all steps carefully!

Review all the information about Food Corps as a program: foodcorps.org/apply

There are 2 tracks, Great Kids Farm is only 1 track - Review what it means to be a Food Education Service Member, which is the track available at Great Kids Farm

Read the full application here, before selecting on the link which takes you to the Google Form - https://foodcorps.org/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/PY24-Service-Member-Application.pdf

Prepare your resume and the answers to all of the questions noted in #3 above.

As you prepare your answers, prepare to let the FoodCorps team know that you are interested to work for the Baltimore Site and tell us why! The loss of people and investment has prompted the city to pursue a risky strategy of effectively paying developers to build. Using incentives with innocuous sounding acronyms like TIFs and PILOTs, new construction in the city has occurred largely at the expense of the city's working class. Meanwhile, despite the promises that incentives would reverse the city's decline, Baltimore continues to lose population.

How did we get here? Why is Baltimore the only jurisdiction in the state that must pay for development? And is there a better way to grow a city? These are just a few of the questions that Tax Broke, the documentary seeks to answer. The film-- five years in the making-- explores the history of the city's fraught relationship with artificially imposed boundaries, codified segregation, and finally a political economy fueled by hundreds of millions of dollars in tax incentives doled out behind closed doors.

After the screening there will be a panel discussion with Char McCready, Executive Director of Citizens Planning and Housing Association (CPHA); Nicole King, Associate Professor of American Studies, UMBC; Nneka N'namdi, Founder and Executive Director, Fight Blight BMore. Taya Graham, Real News Reporter and producer, and Stephen Janis, Real News Reporter and director.

Food will be provided by the Mera Kitchen Collective. Please RSVP via this link, as seating is limited.

Hope to see you there.
