Psi Chi: IMPORTANT information inside!

<Tagline>Details about meeting reschedules & time changes</Tagline>

Hi Psi Chi,

Feels like I haven’t written in a while, don’t you think? Don’t worry, I’ll be back to sending you guys (way too many? … no, never) emails very shortly :)

- - -

Just a few important updates and housekeeping things to go over:

Psi Chi GroupMe

Firstly, I wanted to remind you that we made a group chat for Psi Chi members on GroupMe! We’ll use it to get to know each other, to give advice about classes and grad school, and to ask for your opinions on Psi Chi matters. Much of the information in this email was sent to the GroupMe already - so if you’d like to be among the first to receive updates and provide your input about the rest of the semester, joining the GroupMe is the way to do it.

If you haven’t joined yet, you can do so HERE!

If you’re already in the GroupMe, you can ignore everything I just said (you don’t already do that, right?)

GBM #4 is RESCHEDULED

As many are already aware, Fridays at 3:00pm haven’t been an ideal time for our GBM meetings. Many members are not attending, and many have made it known that this time will never work for them due to scheduling conflicts. We’ve heard you, and we understand!

That said, when we sent out a When2Meet availability survey a few weeks ago, many members did not respond but the majority of those who did indicated that they WERE available to meet on Fridays at 3:00pm. Additionally, this was one of the few time-slots that all of our officers were available as well. Finding a time that will accommodate absolutely everyone is difficult, especially with the change in UMBC’s free hour and the fact that many clubs may meet must navigate the same issue as well.

All things considered, we’ve decided to postpone this Friday’s GBM until next Wednesday, October 27th at 5:30pm. We’ll be giving this new date and time a trial run to see if it is an improvement from our Friday meetings. We will, as always, keep you updated about any future schedule changes, alternative meetings, and event times (which are in the works, I promise you!). We hope that this change will improve attendance and accommodate more individuals who haven’t yet made it to a GBM. Thank you for your understanding!

PSYC Course Recommendations

Lastly, we’ve conjured up a spreadsheet for you guys that holds a list of the best UMBC PSYC courses to take, and which professors to take them with. We hope that this document will help those who still need credits to find engaging teachers, interesting courses, easy A’s - whatever you may be looking for! We’ve started it off, but the sheet will be collaborative so that those with suggestions can add them as well.

You can find the spreadsheet HERE - feel free to take a look!

- - -

Quite a long email today, so thank you for your time! As always, feel free to reach out by email or in the GroupMe with any questions. If you continued reading this far, you deserve a prize or something. <3

Thanks a ton!
Brooke

Psi Chi: Just Checking In!

<Tagline>GBM Recordings, Seminars, and Group Chats... oh my</Tagline>

Hey everybody!

Firstly, a huge THANK YOU to everyone who came to Friday’s graduate school GBM! We had a great turnout, and it was awesome to have you all there. For those who couldn’t make it, we went ahead and recorded the meeting on Webex for your convenience.

Here’s a link to the recorded meeting: https://umbc.webex.com/recordingservice/sites/umbc/recording/9f22741b0a98103a9a5b0050568f9b64/playback

If anyone has any lingering questions after viewing the presentation, or if you have any trouble viewing the recording, feel free to reach out to any of the Psi Chi officers and we’ll do our best to assist!

Career Center Graduate School Seminar

Additionally, if anyone is interested in learning even more about graduate school, the UMBC Career Center is holding a seminar titled ‘Grad School 101: Navigating the Application Process’ that will “guide you through the challenges and put a plan in motion”. They will have sessions covering both the application process and personal statement writing.

The seminar will be held on Thursday, October 14th at 4:45-6:45pmin the Commons Skylight Room. Space is limited, so make sure to click here to RSVP!

Psi Chi GroupMe

Lastly, we made a GroupMe for Psi Chi! We think having a group chat where everyone can freely share their thoughts, questions, psychology memes, etc. will help us get to know each other more quickly, and make membership (or future membership!) a bit more fun. (It also eliminates the hassle of back-and-forth emailing, so your questions can be answered more easily.)

If you’d like to join, here’s the link: https://groupme.com/join_group/71311281/4To4XE48

That’s all for now, thank you!!

Brooke
