It’s about that time of year… It’s time for elections!

Spring 2022 is coming in quick, so it’s time to vote for your Psi Chi officers for next semester. Use this Google Form to read each candidates’ statements and cast your votes: https://forms.gle/97YS256prdzooTyG9

Please take a look and send in your votes by the end of the day on SUNDAY, December 12th.Results will be announced at some point next week, prior to finals week. Thank you to everyone who decided to run for a position - we can’t wait to see whose hands Psi Chi will be placed in! Best of luck :)

Attention Psi Chi Members!

I have an important announcement!

As you know, with the end of the semester being only NEXT WEEK (stay strong y’all!), Psi Chi is officially on the lookout for new board members for the Spring 2022 semester. We are extending the deadline for candidate nominations to the end of the day TOMORROW, Wednesday December 8th, at 11:59pm. 

According to the SGA, Psi Chi cannot run as a club without having filled the roles of President, Vice President, and Treasurer: all of which will be open and must be filled, among others. We would love to see Psi Chi continue to support psychology students and provide interesting opportunities in the future. Being a board member would look great on your resume, and would provide great leadership skills that will come in handy for future jobs or graduate school applications. No experience is needed, the only requirement is to be a member of Psi Chi! We’ll provide all the necessary training beyond that. It’s a pretty good deal if you ask me! 

If you’re interested in running for our open roles of President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer,all you need to do is sign up and submit some statements to THIS Google Form: https://forms.gle/xMCsYv5DazgVmU9N6

I’ll attach the descriptions of the officer roles to this email/post, but keep in mind that not all of those listed are currently on the application.

The application is easy (seriously! check it out), you’ll be trained by our current board members for the position of your choice, and it will provide you an opportunity to meet new people and learn some leadership skills. Honestly, why NOT run for a Psi Chi board position?

Elections will be held sometime prior to the end of the semester. If you have any further questions about elections, board positions, or anything else, you can always reach out to one of the current officers. Please consider running - we’d love to leave Psi Chi in some good hands!

Good morning everyone!

Here’s your last exciting reminder that our MAIN EVENT, the Careers in Psychology Panel, is TODAY (Thursday, December 2nd) from 3-6pm!

This will be a hybrid event. All panelists will be virtual, but you can choose to listen in with us and ask your questions in two ways: on Webex, or in person with us in the Library (7th floor)!Food and drink will be provided for those attending in person.

This panel will be a GREAT opportunity to attend a one-stop shop for information on a variety of psychology fields, including clinical, developmental, behavioral, and even sports psychology! And even better… It’s coming straight from professionals who work in these fields. It’s bound to be interesting for any psychology student, whether you’re well versed in the discipline or not. Come prepared with your questions!

This will be one of the few opportunities left in the semester for you to get attendance points, so we hope you can find a moment in your busy schedules (finals…we get it) to join us! Remember, you don’t have to attend for the full duration of the event to be marked for attendance. Even if you can only join for a short while, don’t hesitate to drop by!

Hi, folks! Guess what?

Psi Chi has been planning an exciting main event for the Fall 2021 semester, and I’m so excited to finally share a little bit about it with you!

Careers in Psychology Panel

The field of psychology is a vast one, and it can take years of courses and experience to learn about each and every branch in the discipline. How can a psychology student narrow down their own future plans if they haven’t gotten to explore each of the different paths that are available to them? Well… Psi Chi is here to help!

On Thursday December 2nd, from 3-6PM, Psi Chi will be hosting a Careers in Psychology panelfeaturing professionals from a wide variety of Psychology-related fields. Each professional will give a brief presentation about the field in which they work and answer questions to give Psi Chi members a breadth of knowledge about different psychology careers. We have professionals from many interesting psychology fields attending, including: sports psychology, clinical/mental health psychology, developmental psychology, and more! More details about in-person/virtual meeting locations will be provided closer to the event date.

We’re so excited to hold this event and can’t wait to share more information with everyone. Until then, mark your calendars - we hope you can make it!

Happy Wednesday, Psi Chi!

Just wanted to remind everyone that GBM #5 is being held TODAY, Wednesday November 17th, at 5:00PM via Webex. We’ll be joined by Dr. Elliot Lasson, a professor and director of UMBC’s I/O Psychology graduate program, to learn more about the field and its offerings to psychology students! 

Industrial/Organizational psychology is a great subject to learn about - it is a unique branch within the discipline of psychology, but it also permeates careers and disciplines of all kinds! This will be a great presentation for anyone who is interested in hearing more.

As I mentioned in my last email, don’t forget that you need to attend at least 3 meetings or events to be considered for active membership this semester. For those graduating, active membership is required to receive graduation regalia from Psi Chi. Even if you can only attend for a portion of the meeting, you should still consider dropping in! You could still hear some valuable new information, and we’ll still take your name for attendance. We hope you can join us at 5:00!
