PPEL 250: Introduction to Philosophy, Politics, Economics, and Law
Social Sciences (GEP)

Are you interested in how philosophical questions intersect with political and economic life? 

PPEL 250 introduces you to the shared historical roots of Philosophy, Economics, and Political Science in foundational figures like Adam Smith and Thomas Hobbes, as well as contemporary frameworks from the three disciplines for analyzing moral, political, and economic dimensions of complex social problems. 

No background knowledge in any of the three disciplines is required.

Note: PPEL 250 is also a gateway course for the new Undergraduate Certificate program in Philosophy, Politics, Economics, and Law (PPEL).

The MCC will take place May 21–24, 2026 at WashU Law in St. Louis, MO. 

Undergraduate, law, and master's students excited about constitutional law, history, design, and reform are invited to apply. 

A travel stipend, lodging, and food will be provided to all participants!

  • As participants, students will step into the role of U.S. state delegates to reimagine our nation's founding document. 
  • Together, they will attempt to enact constitutional change through dialogue, debate, and democratic decision-making.

The six-week, full-time paid summer internship involves a combination of research projects, lectures, and direct mentoring.

  • Be enrolled in an accredited college degree program entering their senior year in fall 2026 or be a recent graduate applying to law school within one year
  • Have a genuine interest in attending law school and have taken, or plan to take, the LSAT
  • Intend to apply to an accredited law school in 2026 or 2027
  • Demonstrate strong academic performance
  • Demonstrate involvement in the campus and local community
  • Present exceptional communication and interpersonal skills

The application window will close on Tuesday, January 20, 2026.
