Getting involved in scientific research is a core component of learning how to become a scientist, but understanding research and how to get started can be daunting. Where should you begin to get involved in undergraduate research?
Join us for an informative workshop designed to clarify the steps to get involved in research. You'll learn practical strategies to kick-start your research journey, including how to find resources and connect with mentors. Additionally, you'll have the opportunity to engage with undergraduate students who are currently involved in research across various STEM disciplines.

Our virtual summer "Tuesdays@2" programming this week is for all future doctors, dentists, and veterinarians! Melissa Huselton from Pre-Health Advising will be giving you ALL THE BEST ADVICE to make your summer successful! They will explain all the little gains you can make now so that you set yourself up well to focus on those important STEM classes all year.
Please note: if you are a pre-health student (or prospective pre-health student) and you can't make it to our virtual event tomorrow, that's okay! You can always make an appointment to meet with the appropriate pre-health advisor for you using this link. (And yes, of course there's virtual availability!)
NEAAHP Mini Health Professions Fair and Expo

The Northeast Association of Advisors for the Health Professions (NEAAHP) conference will include a fair and expo for undergraduate students. Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) is hosting a new Summer Undergraduate Research Program (SURP). This program is 8 weeks long and provides a generous stipend of $12,000. Per the attached flyer: Beginning June 2025, HHMI will support a select group of undergraduate students in HHMI labs at host institutions across the country. Considering or committed to pursuing an MD-PhD, DO-PhD, DDS-PhD, or DVM-PhD? Explore the idea of attending the 2025 APSA (American Physician Scientists Association) Mid-Atlantic Regional Conference at UPenn in Philadelphia on June 21st (Saturday), 2025! Transportation round-trip from UMBC will be provided. Details may be found here.
Please note that this event will take place from the early morning (bus will leave at 6:15AM) through the evening (returning to UMBC around 7pm or later). Additionally, keep in mind that this conference will take place over the summer. You don’t necessarily need to be living on campus, but if you intend to take transportation with the group, you will need to be able to commit to being on campus by around 6:00AM to do so. Of course, you are free to secure your own transportation to the event, if you so choose.
Consider your summer commitments before signing up. If you will be involved in research this summer, be sure to check with your PI about whether you would be free to attend this event. It is on a Saturday, but it’s possible that your program may have a conflicting event or requirement on that day.
